Every first Sunday in May — during Mental Health Week — thousands of people from coast to coast to coast take part in the BMO Walk so Kids Can Talk, supporting youth mental health and ensuring young people have a place to get help and Feel Out Loud. 

Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only 24/7 e-mental health service for youth. Since January 2020, young people have reached out more than 22 million times, turning to Kids Help Phone for free, confidential support whenever they need it. As needs continue to grow, Kids Help Phone is expanding access to care, advancing equity, and using innovation to ensure help is always within reach. 

 

What programs and services does Kids Help Phone offer? 

With the support of the BMO Walk so Kids Can Talk community, Kids Help Phone offers free, confidential mental health support to young people across Canada, including:

  • 24/7 Counselling & Crisis Support
    • Support through text and online messaging with trained, volunteer crisis responders 
    • Phone counselling (with interpretation services available in multiple languages) 

    • Live Chat with professional counsellors 

  • Online Tools & Mental Health Resources
    • An online mental health resource library 

    • A navigational website chatbot to help find support 

    • Resources Around Me, a searchable directory of local and virtual support services 

  • Community & Connection
    • Feel Out Loud Community Creator Space, where youth can explore and share creative content 

    • The Peer-to-Peer Community, a moderated forum where young people can share real-life stories and connect with others 

  • Programs for Equity-deserving Communities
    • RiseUp, powered by Kids Help Phone, supporting African, Caribbean and Black youth 

    • Support for First Nations, Inuit and Métis youth, including Brighter Days: An Indigenous Wellness Program (supported by Sun Life) 

    • Support for newcomer youth, including culturally inclusive mental health services and access to counselling in multiple languages 

  • Support in Schools & Post-Secondary Settings
    • Counsellor in the Classroom for students in Grades 4 through 12 

    • Good2Talk, supporting post-secondary students in Ontario and Nova Scotia
