Fundraising

  • Do you have any suggestions that will help me be a successful fundraiser?
There are many ways to raise funds successfully and have fun in the process. You can share your reason for participating — you’ll be surprised by how many people will support your personal story.

Another idea is to start a team — fundraising as a group can be exciting and motivational. It’s also a great way to achieve a significant fundraising goal.

For more helpful tips, information and ideas, you can check out our Fundraising tools.
  • How will the money I raise be used?

KHP understands that a young person’s world is shaped by their unique identity, their family and community, their digital universe and wherever they live in Canada. For over 36 years we’ve transformed info far more than a helpline. Our approach has always been relentless adaptation.

By supporting Kids Help Phone, you can show young people there's a place for them to Feel Out Loud.

For more information about Kids Help Phone, you can visit our About us page.

  • Why is the Walk now fundraising through the Kids Help Phone Foundation, and how does this affect me?
Kids Help Phone has transitioned to a foundation model to support the long-term sustainability of our services. For participants and donors, nothing changes in how you register, fundraise, or take part in the Walk. Your support continues to directly fund Kids Help Phone’s programs and services for young people across Canada.

Tax receipts

  • How do people who support me receive tax receipts?

Supporters who donate online through your fundraising page will automatically receive an official tax receipt by email within 24 hours.

For donations made in person (by cash or cheque), tax receipts are issued by Kids Help Phone Foundation once the donation has been properly submitted and processed, using the donor information provided.

    • Cash donations:
Add cash donations by making a donation directly through your personal fundraising page using the Donate button. Enter the donor’s full name, address, and email address, and complete the donation using your credit card. This ensures the donor receives their tax receipt by email.

    • Cheque donations:
Cheques must be made payable to Kids Help Phone Foundation, with Walk so Kids Can Talk noted in the memo line. Please mail cheque(s) along with your completed pledge form to:

    Kids Help Phone Foundation
c/o BMO Walk so Kids Can Talk
    439 University Ave., Suite 200
    Toronto, ON M5G 1Y8

Once processed, the donation will be applied to your fundraising page and a tax receipt will be issued to the donor.

Important: To issue tax receipts, full names and complete mailing addresses must be provided for all donors. Incomplete information may delay or prevent receipt issuance.
  • If I donate to myself, will I get a tax receipt?
If you make a self-donation you will receive a tax receipt, however this may affect your incentive prize (if applicable).

In accordance with CRA guidelines, the self-donation can not help you get to a new incentive level. If it does, Kids Help Phone has to issue the lower incentive prize based on what is raised without the self-donation included.

For example, Joe donated $20 to his Walk page and received a tax receipt. At the end of the event, Joe raised an overall total of $500. Because Joe donated $20 to himself and received a tax receipt, the $20 cannot count towards his incentive. He therefore would be eligible to receive a $25 incentive prize, even though it seems he qualifies for the $50 prize.
